An artist living and working in the tiny hillside Californian town of Jenner, Clare Elssaesser is responsible for some of the most beautiful pieces of work you’ll be lucky to get your hands on.
Inspired by her natural surroundings, her paintings depict the female form in full-fledged anonymity, as if the viewer has walked into an intimate moment but its heroine still wished to not fully reveal her identity.
The result is haunting, slighly dark, turning the less appreciative of viewers into a dedicated voyeur.
Adorned by pretty tea dresses and embraced by the nature around them – not unlike Edward Hopper‘s iconic scenes of solitude – there’s an introverted aspect to these women, as if their own solitude is empowered by choice, not left to mere chance.

The good news is you’re able to bring these beauties home, as the artist ships worldwide from her Etsy shop… A few of these will be found adorning my walls, as they’re the perfect visual companions (to my blatant addiction) to P.J. Harvey‘s melodic poetry and Sylvia Plath‘s written one.
